The Deer Are Small And The Rabbits Are Big
Laura Cannell and Lori Goldston
In the summer of 2022 renowned cellist Lori Goldston (cellist for Nirvana, Cat Power, David Byrne) Collaborated with equally renowned chamber folk musician Laura Cannell.
For this album, they recorded in the atmospheric vaulted 14th century undercroft of St Olave's Priory in Great Yarmouth, and in the empty aisles at St Andrews church in Raveningham, Lori on cello, Laura on fiddle and singing in invocations that draw on the literal, spiritual and historical resonances of these spaces.
Struck by the wildlife and the landscape: the title comes from Lori’s surprise at first encounters with small muntjac deer and enormous hares that cut across the fields on drives around the marshes and stalked them in the meadows at twilight around Raveningham.
For this release with The state51 Conspiracy, we designed a Limited edition of 50 hand made sleeves. Each is a vellum-style outer, screen-printed with white ink and paired with a textured high-density back board screen-printed in black ink
We also designed a 51st Edition, a one of a kind piece.
The lathe cut 12" vinyl is housed inside hand-engraved bespoke plaster casing. The record has been cast in bone white plaster, inspired by the stone-like church windows and arches of St Olave's Priory (Great Yarmouth), where the album was recorded.
