PANDEMIC PORTRAIT.
Please email hello@tillmanpress.com to enquire about the project
I am trying to interview someone from every country on earth to make a 360° portrait of the Global Pandemic.
Due to Covid-19, curfews, quarantines, and similar restrictions have been implemented in numerous countries and territories around the world.
Equally, for many countries life has continued relatively normally.
These contrasts across the planet and the opinions and stories from these countries are just as relevant to the project. I want to share the varied human experiences of the pandemic across the world.
The interviews will be recorded as voice notes so they can be recorded whenever is most convenient for you.
I’m going to convert these recordings into visual representations to be printed into a book.
The pages will be scannable with any smartphone, and these recordings will be playable online, so they will be (sort-of) anonymous.
You can record in whatever language feels best to you. As a guide, I have prepared 10 prompt questions about the experience, and the restrictions (or lack thereof) that you might have had to go through.
The theory of this project is that with 6 degrees of separation, I should be able to find someone from every country on the planet. So, if you have any family, friends, or friends of friends who experienced the pandemic across the globe, or know someone who might want to share their story with me, PLEASE pass this on.

F.A.Q’s
I’m not very interesting! Can I still take part in your project?
Yes of course! Everyones experience is relevant! No matter what age, occupation or opinion on Corona, I am looking for a range of stories and unbiased accounts.
Why are you doing this?
Mostly because I think it’s interesting.
I make work that documents the world me, the minutiae of everyday life as well as the interpersonal relationships that we each have with the world and society around us.
The word Sonder- "the realization that each random passerby is living a life as vivid and as complex as your own" coined by John Koenig, seemed more significant than ever during this Pandemic.
We didn’t have a lockdown? Should I still take part?
Yes please! I am interested in the contrasts between how the pandemic affected countries differently.
How long the should my answers be? How much detail shall I go into?
This is totally up to you. You can simply answer the questions, or recount your experiences. Any tangents are welcome!
Does it have to be recorded? Can I write my answers?
Please record your answers, as detailed above. Voice recordings are preferred as they contribute to the diverse personality of the project.
If this isnt possible, or you are concerned for anonymity reasons, you can send me written answers, and I will use a text to speech program.
Will my answer be anonymous?
Yes and no. I will never publish your name, or any personal details. However, the voice recording will be unedited, so your voice will probably be recognizable to your close family and friends.
The only information that will be disclosed is the country you are speaking from.
How can I keep up to date with the project?
I will be creating a newsletter about the project, which you will be automatically added to if you submit a recording. If you woud like to sign up to the newsletter, but don’t plan to submit a recording, you can just email me at Hello@tillmanpress.com and I can add you to the list.
How will you use my information?
I am just an individual artist.
I am not part of any party/ group/ association or society. Any data will be used for this specific project only “The Pandemic Portrait book’.
Your email information will not be passed on, printed, sold, or used in any other way.
When the book is complete, all emails and contents will be permanently deleted.
Only the anonymous voice recording within the book will remain.
